One of my friends, Willy, who I met while working with the international department, is also going to Japan on exchange. He leaves a little before I do. He is going to Kansai Gaidai, which is where most of my friends live, and where I will be visiting first when I go to Japan. Willy also has a blog that everyone should visit. Give him a shout out and see how he is doing. I will add a link to Willy’s blog on the side later.
The University of West Florida, who I am doing my exchange through, has added a link to my website on the Study Abroad page. Not only does this mean that I actually have to try and use proper grammar, but it also means that I will get a lot of visits from new people. For those new people visiting my Blog, I hope you get some enjoyment from it. This is, however, a personal Blog and completely under my control. All posts and comments are approved by me. So I guess let me tell you a little about my Blog and even a little about myself.

Ok, so I have been thinking about all the stuff I still have to do. I need to buy luggage, because I don’t have any, I need to pack all my stuff and move it to my mom’s house, and I need to get my visa. My roommate brought me some boxes from work today, so I started boxing up some stuff, mom get ready. I have only cleaned off the bookshelf and I am already tired of packing. I guess its a good thing I started so early. That part should be done fairly smoothly.
Buying luggage is posing to be a huge problem. I have never had to buy luggage before so I didn’t realize how expensive it is. I want to get something good that wont fall apart when I get to Japan, but I also want something that isn’t too expensive. Is there a happy medium? If anyone knows a place I can get good decently priced luggage please let me know. Just send me an e-mail or comment.
My visa on the other hand, I can do nothing about. I have to wait for my approval letter (if that is what its called) from Japan before I can send in for my visa. Back to waiting!
Those are the only things I have left to do. Besides try to find a job that will let me work for a 2 months. Well, I guess I don’t plan on telling them that I will be leaving in 2 months, but whatever.
Ok, going to try to do some studying. Going to a foreign country is starting to get kinda nerve racking. I mean geeze I need a lot of practice before I go. Time to study!
Ok, this idea was stolen from one of my friends, Jvstin (take that link to go to his website). So, I intend to post pictures of me hanging out with my friends as kind of a last bit-o-fun before I leave for Japan. There will also be links and other exciting things happening to my friends or just a little of them being stupid.
So, yeah, more coming later.
So, I managed to get the paperwork off in time, but I had to adjust it a little bit. I’m taking a small vacation before school starts. I am flying to Osaka on August 31st and staying there until Sept 7th. I will be staying at Taka’s house, and we are going to go to a ryokan (Japanese style inn) for a few nights. Well, because of this trip I had a little trouble filling out the information for the paper work. It was all arrival information. What time will you arrive in Tokyo? Which airport are you flying in on? What is your flight number? Yeah, so I had to change the first two to fit my trip. Which I was worried they wouldn’t like that I changed, but I got Aki to talk to them and they said it was fine so now I can rest easy. Its 3:14am and I’m trying to fix my sleeping schedule so I’m going to go lay down and try to sleep.
As everyone knows, I got my acceptance letter. The paperwork sent with the letter is arrival information that I have to fill out. Well classes don’t start until Sept. 22, and I wanted to visit my friends before school started. I was thinking I could go around the 13th spend some time with friends then school will start. Well, I found out that orientation is during the 2nd week of Sept., so now I have to go even earlier. I don’t really care because I want to go as soon as possible. So I sent Daito Bunka (my school in Japan) my travel ideas. I told them i want to arrive in Osaka on Sept. 1st and visit friends and then on the 8tIh I will hop on a train and leave for Tokyo, but again with the waiting. I have yet to get a response from them saying that my travel plans fit within the schedule for my orientation. Oh and when I say leave on the 1st that would be August 31st here. YAY! 15hr time difference. I hope they answer soon, because I only have 11 days to send them the information back.
Waiting… waiting… waiting… I have been waiting for my letter of acceptance since the end of February. As everyone knows, waiting is the worst thing ever. Much to my surprise, today I woke up to a phone call from the international center. This is a regular thing so I didn’t think much of it. They wanted the keys to their van back, because I used it last Friday to pick Kazuki up from the airport. She also told me that I forgot to fill out another form for my application to Daito Bunka. So I told them I would be there shortly. Upon my arrival she handed me an envelope. In the envelope was the most beautiful thing I have seen so far. My letter of acceptance, and of course more paperwork for me to fill out. It feels good to know that it is finally official. I have been trying to go to Japan on exchange for 2 years now and it is finally happening!
Unfortunately I still have some waiting to do. I applied for a scholarship and they wont announce the people getting the scholarships until the end of the month. Cross your fingers for me!
